Looking back through the journal that I keep about how I'm spreading joy - I'm close to 250 mark since April 14, 2008. My first personal goal is 1,000. I want to be at 1,000 by the end of the year. (I need to get busy...) Here is a look at some of the things I've done: purchased lunch for senior saving for college, gift basket with soup mixes and various greeting cards, hot fudge sundaes from mcdonalds (I buy them and give them randomly. The look on people's faces is priceless..you need to try this!) Brought extra items to pot luck so others could participate to, note card to encourge, sympathy card, left candy for delivery guy on top of packages, bought my bestest sister a very cool coffee mug, gave kids $20.00 and sent to movies-alone, purchased dinner from youth group raising funds for missions trip, bought lunch for friend, ordered coffee from school fundraiser, left larger than normal tip, spent time with friend I haven't seen in a while, yard sales - purchased something from each one I stopped at (hey, they are having the sale for a reason aren't they....)left larger than DESERVED tip (very bad service, but hey...maybe the larger tip encouraged them to do better..who knows), kept my horrible mood to myself...was very nice and friendly, basket of candy to hospital waiting room, peanutbutter for food drive, bought 2 boxes of ice cream sandwiches and gave them all away, gave away boxes of little debbie snack cakes, gave candy bars to random people, puzzle books for a couple of people in the hospital, visited nursing home, donated school supplies, gave homeless man $$$ (didn't have food or time to get him some, so gave $$$), went in half on a microwave for person without stove or toaster oven, visit at hospital, left $5.00 on car window (hope the owner got it...), gave nurse at nursing home a milk shake, sent sweet treat to best friend, emailed card to troops, donated cloths to christian ministry, always give 10% to church - each and every week, give extra for missionaries, thanked fireman for protecting our communities, bought dessert for couple of servicemen in the same restaurant (love the guys and gals that take care of our country), phone calls- checking on people that need encouragement, volunteering time for teens4truth (to help earn $$$ for missions trip) This list in no way represents all 239 things done to date - but you get the idea. Some things are repeated - especially those things I love to get myself. I find myself giving reese cups quite often or buying an extra cup of coffee to share. I'm telling you, doing unexpected things for your family is so wonderful. Giving things to strangers as you pass by - before they can even utter "thank you" you are already feeling more joy than they can even express. Getting started is half the battle. The ideas will come, the joy is unbelievable.
So, tell me, how are you Spreading Joy?
